Luc en Geert staan eind jaren negentig - op het hoogtepunt van de Belgische tech-boom - als visionaire oprichters aan het hoofd van een imperium. Tot ze horen dat binnen 24 uur het nieuws over hun fraude bekend zal raken en hun spraaktechnologiebedrijf ten onder zal gaan. Hun laatste dag op vrije voeten wordt een stormachtige zoektocht naar verlossing bij investeerders, familie en vrienden, waarin ze ontdekken wat er echt toe doet.
In the late 1990s, at the height of the Belgian tech boom, Luc and Geert are visionary founders at the helm of an empire. Until they learn that within 24 hours, news of their fraud will become public and their speech technology company will collapse. Their last day of freedom becomes a stormy search for redemption among investors, family, and friends, in which they discover what really matters.
It shouldn't really be said, but the story of Anke Blondé's latest film (Juliet, The Best of Dorien B.) is very reminiscent of the spectacular rise and fall of technology company Lernout & Hauspie. The screenplay was written by Angelo Tijssens, who has previously won awards for his screenplays for successful films such as Girl, Close, and Julian. Dust is also well on its way to becoming an international success, as the film has been nominated for a Golden Bear in Berlin: it has been since 1981—with Hugo Claus's Friday—that a Flemish film has been included in the festival's official competition.
