Het Brit Rock Film Festival beleeft haar 12de editie, en zakt voor het eerst in haar geschiedenis af naar Cinema ZED Leuven! Speciaal voor deze avond zijn de allerbeste klimfilms uit het Verenigd Koninkrijk geselecteerd - epische beklimmingen, intense weersomstandigheden, moed en doorzettingsvermogen, liefde en passie. Kortom: meeslepende en visueel indrukwekkende verhalen die de klimmer in je zal inspireren, of je nu een topsporter bent of een gewone avonturier.
De films worden gepresenteerd door topklimmer Siebe Vanhee.
The Brit Rock Film Festival is celebrating its 12th edition and, for the first time in its history, is coming to Cinema ZED Leuven! The very best climbing films from the United Kingdom have been selected especially for this evening—epic climbs, intense weather conditions, courage and perseverance, love and passion. In short: compelling and visually impressive stories that will inspire the climber in you, whether you are a top athlete or an ordinary adventurer.
The films will be presented by top climber Siebe Vanhee, in collaboration with climbing club Hungaria Leuven, and in aid of Climbers Against Cancer.
The three climbing films on the program:
Big Walls and Bedtime Stories (15 min.)
As part of their year of ‘education through adventure’, professional climber Leo Houlding shares his favorite place with his favorite people. From homeschooling at an altitude of 600 meters to snowball fights on a portaledge or hanging tent: Jackson and Freya climb the Muir Wall on El Capitan, supported by mom Jess and dad Leo. So come and meet the whole family!
Little Wings (25 min.)
For Tina Breslin, who is 5'2“, the highest routes offer the greatest comfort. Tina was recently diagnosed with ADHD, and highballs are her escape from an overactive mind. We follow Tina's climbing year as she tackles beautiful routes in North Yorkshire and the Lakes, supported by her partner Ian Henderson—a 6'4” giant. Tina's severe lack of reach and her neurological condition present constant challenges, but she never shies away from them. This film is a sweet and charming exploration of the mental benefits of climbing and the focus that can be found in dedication. In the grand finale, the bar is raised when Tina attempts “Hang the Gallows High,” a route where falling is not an option.
Trad Stars (60 min.)
2025 proved to be one of the best years for traditional climbing in living memory, and filmmaker Al Lee set out to capture the most incredible ascents. Trad Stars celebrates traditional climbing in the United Kingdom in all its glory—the colorful characters, the rich history, the exciting routes, some of the most beautiful locations in the United Kingdom, the amazing climbing! Highlights include breathtaking climbing footage of Leuven's top athlete Siebe Vanhee.

Big Walls and Bedtime Stories (15 min.)
Als onderdeel van hun jaar van ‘onderwijs door avontuur’ deelt professioneel klimmer Leo Houlding zijn favoriete plek met zijn favoriete mensen. Van thuisonderwijs op 600 meter hoogte tot sneeuwballengevechten op een portaledge of hangende tent: Jackson en Freya beklimmen de Muir Wall op El Capitan, ondersteund door mama Jess en papa Leo. Maak dus gezellig kennis met de hele familie!

Voor Tina Breslin, die 1,57 meter lang is, bieden de hoogste routes de grootste troost. Tina is onlangs gediagnosticeerd met ADHD en highballs zijn haar uitweg uit een overactieve geest. We volgen Tina's klimjaar terwijl ze prachtige routes in North Yorkshire en de Lakes aflegt, ondersteund door haar partner Ian Henderson – een reus van 1,93 meter. Tina's ernstige gebrek aan reikwijdte en haar neurologische toestand zorgen voor voortdurende uitdagingen, waar ze echter nooit voor terugdeinst. Deze film is een lieflijke en charmante verkenning van de mentale voordelen van klimmen en van de focus die te vinden is in toewijding. In de grootse finale wordt de lat hoger gelegd wanneer Tina ‘Hang the Gallows High’ probeert, een route waar vallen geen optie is.

2025 bleek een van de beste jaren voor traditioneel klimmen sinds mensenheugenis te zijn, en filmmaker Al Lee heeft zich ten doel gesteld om de meest ongelooflijke beklimmingen vast te leggen. Trad Stars viert het traditionele klimmen in het Verenigd Koninkrijk in al zijn glorie – de kleurrijke personages, de rijke geschiedenis, de spannende routes, een paar van de mooiste locaties van het Verenigd Koninkrijk, het geweldige klimmen! Hoogtepunten zijn onder meer adembenemende klimbeelden van Leuvens topsporter Siebe Vanhee.
