In the late 1920s, Hollywood was gradually making the transition from silent films to talkies. The stars of silent films had to adapt to the new medium. Don Lockwood made the transition effortlessly because he had a beautiful voice, but his regular dance partner, the conceited blonde Lina Lamont, had an irritating, squeaky voice. Voice lessons don’t help, and yet Lamont insists on recording her own lines. Don’s best friend Cosmo comes up with the idea of secretly having another woman record and sing the lines. That other voice belongs to the charming revue singer Kathy Selden, with whom Don quickly falls in love…

Together with her tame rooster Hindi and classmate Saeed, she sets out determinedly on a journey from the countryside to the city, eagerly searching for the necessary—but exorbitantly expensive—ingredients.

Fifteen-year-old Ahmet lives in a remote village in North Macedonia, in a conservative Yörük Muslim community. After his mother’s death, his strict father took him out of school. He must tend the sheep and care for his younger brother Naim, who hasn’t spoken a word since their mother’s passing. Ahmet finds solace in electronic dance music and dreams of a career as a DJ. Then he falls in love with a girl who has come over from Germany because she was forced into an arranged marriage. In this deeply patriarchal community, Ahmet’s dreams seem hopeless, but with help from an unexpected source, he persists.
