Net als in zijn eerder werk verkent Jonathan Glazer (Under the Skin, Sexy Beast) in The Zone of Interest de grenzen van eenzaamheid en vervreemding. De Brit staat garant voor bijzondere films met personages die hun eigen betekenis zoeken in vaak bizarre omstandigheden. Deze keer wordt hij bijgestaan door Sandra Hüller. Met Anatomie d'une Chute en deze film scoorde de Duitse topactrice zowaar een een-tweetje in Cannes vorig jaar. De eerste ging met de Gouden Palm aan de haal, de tweede met de Grand Prix (tweede prijs). Critici zijn het er dan ook unaniem over eens: The Zone of Interest is Glazers beste werk. Confronterend, gitzwart en essentieel.
